The lofty alpine village of Visperterminen wanted their village square redesigned with the addition of a drinking fountain. The fountain is to be understood as a symbol of the visible and invisible: its outer shape is derived from analogies of the surrounding area, such as the front gardens of typical houses in the region. The horizontally and vertically layered pieces of slate rock inside that are washed by the water, convey to the beholder the mostly hidden aspects of the mountain that cannot be experienced. The fountain on Herrenviertelplatz Square thus becomes the only place in the village that makes it possible, symbolically speaking, to experience physically what the mountain stands for. For once, the inner depths of the mountain, the stone and the spring, can actually be touched and felt.
